VLC for Windows 8

In case certain file formats are not available in Windows 8 or something, well I don't know, there's VLC Windows 8 Metro edition. Currently, it has been installed on about 0.1 billion devices globally but that is the desktop-mode application that is running on the Windows PCs, the standard computers powered by Intel or AMD processors. This edition will support ARM-based tablets in the subsequent release in addition to other devices and other architectures. Like the desktop version of the media player from VLC, you have the access to the files, discs and the network streams but do you probably want the portable DVD/BD player just for your tablet devices? Well, nobody makes this kind of purpose like that but if you don't have the Blue-Ray technology at your home at all, you may want to buy a BR player, the PS3 or perhaps the USB BD-RW drive for your computer. It may be good if your computer comes with the Blue Ray drive but the games are obviously run from DVD-ROMs as that format isn't the most popular one.
This fundraiser from VLC is run to allowed experienced VideoLAN core team members to work on this Metro port. They expect the release three months after this campaign.
During the development, they had created prototype versions of the software with working and audio playback of local files to make sure that this project is actually feasible as part of their development challenge. The prototype versions were easier to interleave than they anticipated. The first release of VLC for Windows 8 Metro edition will run on x86-based devices, followed by the ARM based support that will be added in a subsequent release.

Chrome for IOS and Android Update

For IOS users, the browser version had been updated to Chrome version 23. This includes the ability to open PDFs in other apps, support for saving your boarding passes and tickets with Passbook, an option to automatically detect text encoding and stability and security improvements so the updates may be easy with the App Store or ITunes if you already have installed the app.

For Android users, well, what the hell is up with the version of the app. It was updated to version 18 for ARM and x86 Android devices. This includes fixes for some frequently occurring stability issues. Like App Store for the IOS, the update through Google Play Store is easy

InfiniTV and Ceton Companion for Windows 8

It seems that Ceton is planning the new drivers for InfiniTV tuners on Windows 8 system that may have the new Ceton Media Center Plugin but there's no need to update if you're a Windows 7 user. The downside is that the bridging feature is no supported when running on Windows 8 devices. Network Tuners are supported when connecting Windows 8 computers to Windows 7 computers with InfiniTV however. For Ceton Companion Services, there is a beta version of the software for Windows 8. These are PC-based components that are used by Ceton Companion mobile app. So, if you're using the mobile app and Windows 8 on your computer, you may want to upgrade the Ceton Companion Services running on your computer.
Other updates include the Beta Program that happened two days ago. Right after this, they will be issuing a firmware update with some new capabilities for Ceton Echo. This may include the 1080p video support, exposed settings that you may need Media Center plugin on your computer that will allow you to enable optical audio out, audio bitstreaming over HDMI or optical, manage Echo software updates and run diagnostics. Plus, there's even an Android Support for Echo which may have the extension in interesting new ways with more capabilites and apps. However, the downside to the bad future is that they're planning this version as the Christmas present.

Spreadsheet on Google Drive smartphone app

There comes the spreadsheet on Google Drive smartphone app that you can make, edit and format the spreadsheets online from anywhere you go with your IOS and Android devices. You can switch fonts, resize columns and rows, sort data and even more. Just like using on the computer, the editing of the documents will be in real time so watch what you're doing and especially for other friends who are editing the same document as well.
Other tweaks to the app include better text formatting when you copy and paste in a Google Drive document and for Android users, you can edit text within tables in documents and add a shortcut on the homescreen of your device to any specific file in Google Drive storage.

Bing Translator App for Windows Phone 8

The Translator app on Windows Phone devices may be freaking handy for translation but it contains other ways of translating into other languages such as the new lens feature where you can translate the text in the picture taken with the camera and the use of the voice feature to translate what you say to the text in other languages.
This is the combination of AR Translation with the camera, speech and text translation but damn, Augmented Reality on this? Perhaps I was reminded of various games on 8th gen portable consoles where you can scan the AR cards and use the camera to capture them and that will trigger something depending on the games you play but using AR for translating stuffs? Well, I don't know.

Xbox System Update that fixes issues for Smartglass users

Recently, the Smartglass app was out for the tablets and smartphone devices but there are flaws haunting them and especially for the Xbox Music which has the flaws regarding the playlist name. In this update that was recently out two days ago in the western timezone, the issues regarded the incorrect playlist name when launching the playlist from the app to the console, the Video Closed Captioning and other issues in Xbox Music the users were experiencing. So, where the hell was product testing by then before calling this fluid enough?

GMail and Google Drive

The update for Gmail allows you to add the files from your Google Drive storage of up to 10GB but do you want or have some sort of reason to send such a very large file like that in your mail?
In addition, using the Gmail forgotten attachment detector, Google will detect if the file you send from Google Drive is shared with everyone or not, you'll be prompted with the option to change the file sharing settings without leaving the email and especially for the links that lead to the files from your Drive storage.
So start messaging your friends with the content taken from your Google Drive storage after the update has rolled out in the next few days.

Windows Phone 7.8 to be available next year

If you know that Windows Phone 8 is extra fast and fluid enough that it is quite faster and smoother, perhaps Windows Phone 7.8 is going to have the features from Windows Phone 8. However, the Windows Phone 7 devices will not be as fast as Windows Phone 8 devices as not all features from Windows Phone 8. So far, I might have seen the various Windows Phone 8 devices at SITEX this month but I still haven't seen the ones at the ISPs at the shopping complexes. Maybe I still have to check out one day or something.
For Windows Phone 7.5 users, you are able to enjoy the popular Words with Friends and Draw Something while the overly popular casual games will be on the way. Plus, there will be additional apps to get as well as the extended Xbox Live service for Windows Phone users. However, the models running Windows Phone 7.8 may be somewhat unnecessary unless they are obviously asking for additional speed.

Additional songs in Project Diva F

Tell Your W****, anyone? Previously, it was in the new Taiko No Tatsujin game in the arcades and 3DS and now, Project Diva F is finally getting one as the song list in the game looks kind of disappointing or so. Another song is Sweet Devil and both of these will be coming in Playstation 3 version of the game and I don't know if they will be available as the DLC for the Vita version. At least, the Edit Mode is still the workaround if they are not available.

In addition, Popipo Special Edition will be available as the DLC for the Vita version with two cats from Everyday Together program on the same console. This was already announced by Sega that this DLC will be available in December 4th.

Exclusive TV Studio, Professional Entertainment and Original videos in YouTube Japan

Google and YouTube may have the feeling that the popularity of YouTube is like not on par with Nico Nico Douga in Japan but then YouTube is also popular in Japan, right? If you have a video posted in both YouTube and Nico Nico Douga, your number of video views should be doubled approximately.

Today, it seemed that YouTube had a deal with 13 companies that will add original shows and videos to the constantly-growing Japanese library with newer videos that will be promised daily. There’s going to be a broad array of partners, with a slight focus on comedy and pop-culture which may mean a shorter language hurdle for the viewers outside Japan but if you know certain Japanese shows, dramas and other contents including the artists, you may want to see those on YouTube for sure. There are other stuffs you can see and it looks like the Japan TV programming thingy is likely to increase.

Note: At Engadget blog post of this article, there’s a link to the translated version of the official YouTube Japan blog post of this article where you can be surprised to find interesting samples. This and the previous blog post here are based on Engadget blog posts.

SITEX in Singapore Expo this year (Updated)

Note: During the time I’m blogging this, it seems that I’m already feeling sick maybe due to the noisy rain that happened in the early afternoon. First, there was some runny n***, then there was some headache due to the rain.
OK, let’s have details on what was inside the SITEX area. It was taking 2.5 halls and that took me one to two hours in exploration. The interesting stuffs in technology were the Android TV which allowed you to turn the TV into the Smart TV, the portable projectors, computers and tablets running Windows 8 and RT as well as Windows 8 Pro itself that allows you to upgrade your computer to Windows 8. Well, is that all the kids have got when playing casual games? No, of course not. The first game played there was Angry Birds Space on the Android TV and then I realized that the game was already in the first set. And of course, since it’s an Android TV, there’s no way you can play the games that which require the multi-touch feature. The OS can work like what a normal computer can do so it works with the mouse and keyboard in addition to the touch. However, you’re going to need the USB mouse and keyboard for that device and for internet access, you’re going to need the Ethernet cable or the USB Wireless Adapter. Damn to that device for having the grainy color palette. There was a gaming corner which displayed the popular console and computer games and there was an area where the people were watching the screen of the game the players were playing. How cool is that and especially for the new technology used to power up the games with newer CPUs and GPUs.
For Windows 8 and RT devices, so far, I could see the third-party Windows RT tablets but like I already said in the previous blog posts, it was already bitchy to use Desktop mode on the tablets as things are already way too small to tap ever since Windows 7 tablets. There were also laptops, desktops, ultrabooks, 3-in-1 desktops and so on running Windows 8 in which there was not much to say.
Meanwhile at the console gaming area where you can buy games for seventh generation consoles as well as to play the games which are currently inserted in the respective consoles, I started off with the song the promoters were in in DJ Hero. The gameplay may seem easy . The normal notes are where you can tap the respective keys on the turntable while the hold notes may require that you scratch the turntable. However, the tricky part was having to move the f*****g slider part and I couldn’t figure things out like that. Maybe I prefer Beatmania or DJ Max franchise over this but either way, you’ll have to learn how to figure out the other parts in rhythm games.
About the portable projector thing, I hooked up my Ipod Touch to that projector and holy shit, the sound from the projector was seriously distorted but that’s because the projector is designed to display image as the main core concept so if you want the better sound, you may need the external speakers for that. Remember, that projector allows the Iphone or Ipod Touch to be hooked in. Sampled contents were Hello Planet Remastered version and Little Star Piano Arrange taken from YouTube.
Last but not least, there were Windows Phone 8 and 7.5 devices from Nokia Booth at SITEX as well and from what I knew after asking various questions, there wasn't much difference between Windows Phone 7 and 8 other than the changes in the interface, improvements to the existing apps and services as well as the new ones.

Speaking of Little Star from IIDX Tricoro, I already had made the 16-Bit arrangement of it. However, due to how the original version sounded, I decided to add in the non-retro type musical instruments in the arrangement and they some parts sounded kind of noisy like that like trying to play all the fast notes. Also, the arrangement is available at my Nico Nico Douga account.

Project Diva F on Playstation 3

Can this version have more songs as I had seen the information? It seems that the Playstation 3 version will be released next year in March and the controller has the laptop touch pad as the extra feature needed for the game similar to playing the Playstation Vita version. But if you’re playing on the normal controller or the mini Hori controller, I don’t know how can you do with the Star notes. Speaking of the arcade controller of the laptop touch pad, I may be reminded of the controller used for Otomedius Gorgeous for Xbox 360.

We’ll get further details sometime after this but in the meantime, you can try out the DLC for the PS Vita version of the game. You can also transfer the edit save data between the Vita and Playstation 3 versions of the game.

YouTube app on the Wii

Well, there was previously the YouTube app for Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and Vita and now this, Wii. You can make use of the Wii Remote to browse the app and search on which video you may want to watch. However, this kind of interaction is not as good as using the Playstation Vita or Xbox Smartglass to search for whatever YouTube video you want to look for. For Xbox SmartGlass, you  can use the mobile device to type in the stuff you want to search on the app.

DropBox Chooser

DropBox Chooser is the new way to let you access the data in your DropBox storage from any web application and keep them updated. There was a feature that you could share from Dropbox inside Facebook Groups and with the Dropbox Chooser, there will be a similar feature available for other app developers.

Skype for Linux with Windows Live Login

Previously, the newest version of Skype for Windows which is version 6.0 has the Windows Live Messenger support but to make things even faster and more fluid, it seems that Microsoft has decided to ditch Windows Live Messenger in favor Skype next year. Now, there’s also the Linux version of Skype that is based on Windows version of Skype 6.0.

Interestingly enough, the Linux version of Skype is multi-arch friendly. This means, 64-bit users can install the 64-bit version of Skype on the 64-Bit Linux OSes. Unfortunately, there are flaws for the 64-bit version of Skype for Linux compared to 32-bit versions.

Skydrive usage has doubled

Six months ago, they had released the first sync apps for Skydrive which make it easy to view and manage your personal Skydrive from Windows Explorer in Windows and Finder in Mac OSX. Now, the storage has been doubled. Other updates improve the app feature capabilities for smartphone devices that improve on how you access Skydrive across different devices.

With yesterday’s release of the update, you can select which folders from Skydrive are synced similar to other online storage services like DropBox where you can select which folder to synchronize. You can also share stuffs to various social networking sites.

Lastly, for Android users, they have added a few improvements such as uploading all types of files from SD cards, renaming folders and files and custom sort orders for every view.

Outlook.com Email address for Outlook 15

With Outlook 15, connection is made easier and especially when your personal email accounts support the rich capabilities of Exchange Active Sync including the new @outlook.com email address. Also, there’s no need for you to use Outlook Connector add-in to do this.

Outlook 15 uses the newly-added support for the rich Exchange Active Sync protocol that has become the gold standard used by smartphones and other mobile devices. It will sync mails, calendar, contacts and tasks from the new Outlook.com account.

With Outlook 15, your Hotmail accounts will automatically get migrated to connect via EAS. There is no need to add accounts again and you can access the other email accounts you have set up as well.

Playstation Vita System Software Ver 2.0

The update will be available in November 19 or perhaps 20 and it features the upcoming Playstation Plus games which can be played on your Vita which may be as cool as linking those games to the Playstation 3 console.  However, not all games can be cross-played even with the Playstation Plus. Another thing is the cloud storage similar to the one for Xbox Live Gold members but I guess that Sony has fulfilled the better promises in terms of the visuals in the Vita interface.

Other improvements include the Email app, improved web browser with better HTML5 and Javascript engines, able to buy movies in Videos App as well as to share stuffs from web browsers to social networking and the list goes on.

Unfortunately, is there a reason not to have folder support for Photo, Music and Video apps? Also, there’s still no vertical screen mode support for the Vita when you’re not playing the game but it may be a little bit weird like that.

Last improvement is the Content Manager which includes cloud storage and wireless connection as well as the 1080p support for video playback on the Vita.

Google Drive update

Today’s update from Google features the search by person on Google Drive which may be useful in case you forget the filename that you may want to search for the person who shared the file with you. Other update includes the interaction of Google Earth files right inside Google Drive on the web and that’s a bravo thing to Google for sure. You can also make new folders while organizing files which may seem to be one of the minor updates than a major update as well as to drag and drop folders from your desktop to Google Drive. Unfortunately, that drag and drop update is for Google Chrome and I don’t know if other web browsers can support that feature as well. Lastly, the search includes the files in the Trash folder in case you’ve accidentally deleted the files and you want them restored back but you can’t find where they are in the Trash folder.

DirectX 11.1

Windows 8 has an updated DirectX 11.1 that supports Direct3D 11.1, DXGI 1.2 and the revised Windows Imaging Component. There were previous official claims that the new PC gaming technology in DirectX 11 is available for Windows 8 devices but to make things inaccurately fair enough, there are some backported features of DirectX 11 for Windows 7 and its server variant under Platform Update for Service Pack 1 that is included with Internet Explorer 10 Release Preview for Windows 7. In addition, you can get this update for Windows 7.

However, there are some DirectX elements that depend on WDDM 1.2 drivers and the new Windows Store app APIs in which they won’t be available on Windows 7. Maybe things are much smoother like that on Windows 8 but another improvement includes the fixes of decoding of 96bpp floating-point TIFF images. So for Windows 7 users, you can obtain this update and start photo-shopping straight away and save the pictures as TIFF files for technological improvement.

Skype for Iphone 5 and Ipod Touch 5th

When the Iphone 5 and Ipod Touch 5th gen devices were released, you may be shocked to see that the VIDEO CALL is in FOUR BY THREE like the app doesn’t even fill up the entire screen but with this update for Skype app, there’s finally the support for Iphone 5 and Ipod Touch 5th gen devices which fill up the entire screen for wider screen video call.

Internet Explorer 10 Release Preview for Windows 7

The web browser on Windows 8 surely looks fast and fluid but the Metro version may appear to be the best for tablets. In Windows 7 version, the fast and fluid thing is almost perfect as there are still traces of non-metroized icons. OK, it may be fast but not as fast as in Windows 8 and besides, it still looks like Internet Explorer 9 but kind of better. In the meantime, the release preview is available for download today.

Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 7 has backported features of Windows 8 version which may be where the browser is not affected by that freaking development disaster in the first place like people are already sticking on to Windows 7 due to that. Another thing that will change the technology in the future is the Do Not Track feature which is also on the rival web browsers.

IE10 has more interoperable HTML5 support and enhanced web programming model for Windows 7 and 8 which improve the HTML5 even more and especially for sophisticated page layouts in which there’s CCS3 for publication quality page layouts and application UI with HTML5 Forms, input controls and validation. For Enhanced Web Programming Model, it has better offline applications through local storage with indexedDB and HTML5 Application Cache, HTML5 History, HTML5 File APIs and the list goes on. Developers building on these capabilities in Windows 8 can run the same markup with the same performance and capabilities on Windows 7.

Overall, this web browser is about the major improvement to the HTML5 technology in which the opportunities continue for HTMl5 to make both web sites and online applications better. If you have a Windows 8 device, you can already encounter this kind of new experience with Internet Explorer 10 .

Windows Embedded Standard 8 Release Preview

Yikes, I forgot to download this one yet so that I can still continue the prototype product testing. However, the embedded edition of Windows 8 is actually for embedded computer devices which can range from very small size to the large size depending on the development plan.

Last fall, they announced Windows Embedded 8 and Windows Embedded Compact 8 that will be released some time next year but in the mean time, you can download the release preview of Windows Embedded Standard 8 and use it on your embedded devices or any compatible normal computer device. However, since this is the embedded edition of the OS, the preparation and installation will not be quite easy.

In addition, there will also be Pro and Industry editions of Windows Embedded 8. But even then, all of these editions are likely to be for business use elsewhere the Standard edition can be available for personal use as well as if those Windows Embedded devices can be seen in the car which may be rare to see.

The entire Windows Embedded 8 family will be available some time next year and that may include the Handheld and Automotive editions.

DJ Max Ray Ver 1.03

Sick of stupid crashes that happen on Tap Sonic and even DJ Max Ray? Perhaps you may be angered should that happen to your device but the developers might have come up with the inaccurate workaround or something. I may suggest that you keep the app open like everyday or so without closing it entirely but I don’t know if that is the workaround or not. While I had recently reached Level 50 and above in DJ Max Technika Tune, this update is what I stumbled upon and especially the IOS version 6.01 update which fixes the issues for Iphone 5 and Ipod Touch 5th Gen. This update features additional song packs with one of them from the update being free. More gameplay videos of DJ Max Technika Tune and DJ Max Ray will be coming in on my YouTube account and videos that have Full Combo will be posted to my Nico Nico Douga account.

Skydrive on Opera

If you’re an Opera user, you’ve got to be warned that Skydrive jams the entire Opera browser like crazy. This is due to like two million nonsense characters entered in the source code of the website and that’s not fast and fluid enough. Comparing to other web browsers which are unaffected by this bug, it seems that some guy, Hallword R. M. Steen, had discovered the proof of this bug and blogged about it as shown in the link: http://my.opera.com/hallvors/blog/2012/11/12/microsoft-sends-two-million-null-characters-hangs-opera.

Other technical explanation is that the source code Opera gets, viewed in SciTE Behind, a comparison of source sent to Opera and other web browser, the comparison tool ExamDiff as he used is loaded directly from the Fiddler HTTP debugger to prove that this is about bytes coming from the site rather the result of some strange browser-internal bug. Perhaps someone at Microsoft must be crazy like trying to make things extra fast and fluid or perhaps trying to restore the interface as many people disagree with. If the interface is bound to be reverted while trying to speed up stuffs, that should be what the future of Microsoft can have been in the first place. So, is the fast and fluid phase going crashing down the hill?

Even worse is that Opera gets way more confused by the unexpected NULL characters than other web browsers do, judging from the CPU usage but we don’t know which side of the developers should fix. It is good to compare Opera with other web browsers for perhaps mistakes over certain web sites you visit and that was a surprising discovery made by Hallword R. M. Steen. Official proof can be found at the link above.

Enhancements on the new SharePoint done by Microsoft

Yesterday, they demonstrated at the conference the existing array of the new product enhancements in the new SharePoint and highlighted significant investments in social, cloud and mobile capabilities. The enhancements include the new Metro user experience where you can share documents inside or outside the organization with the single click, drag and drop content into document libraries, edit lists inline and create new sites easily.

Other enhancements are as follows:

  • With the use of Skydrive Pro, you can store and sync documents across all the devices in the organization.
  • For task management, you can organize your work with task lists and project timelines as well as to consolidate task management across SharePoint, Outlook and Project.
  • You can customize and narrow your search for more relevant results and discover related people and documents with recommendations with the newly improved FAST Search.
  • Using eDiscovery across SharePoint, Exchange, Lync and file shares, you can make the dynamic websites with cross-site publishing and enhanced Web content management. Improve scalability and performance with a new cloud architecture.

In addition, SharePoint 15 also introduces a new cloud app model for more than 700k developers building on it. This new cloud app model and a new Office store make it easier for developers to build, buy and deploy and manage applications using existing Web development skills. This can be done with the use of the new Visual Studio in which they can work with Napa tools for online development of Office 365 apps, include templates and designers to facilitate app development and support the LightSwitch HTML client for easy creation of data-centric business apps in SharePoint 15.

The last thing may include SharePoint mobile for Windows 8, Windows Phone, IOS and Android devices. All of these apps will work with both SharePoint 15 and Online.

Skype Preview for Windows Phone 8

After the announcement of Windows Phone 8 version of Skype two weeks ago, they had recently released the app yesterday. Just like the entire OS of Windows Phone 8, Skype for Windows Phone 8 is designed to be fast, fluid, clean and simple. In addition to Windows 8 version, the Windows Phone 8 version allows you to get the combined contact list with buddies from Windows Live Messenger. Perhaps, Windows Live Messenger doesn’t seem to be extra fast and fluid enough as there are still traces of glassy stuffs there. At least in the new Outlook which combines both the Outlook account and Hotmail account into one Microsoft account, it is already quite fast and fluid enough but they still have work to do to ensure that it gets compatible with other web browsers.

You’ll have to keep in mind that this is in Preview state so expect the bugs to be there. Also, we don’t even know if there’s going to be Windows Phone 7.5 and 7.8 versions of Skype in the future?

Excel Surveys for Skydrive

Oh man, perhaps Microsoft Access can be better suited in storing the databases of the surveys you’ve made so far. Yesterday, they had launched the Excel survey feature on Skydrive. It is for collecting information from your friends and family to better organize and plan activities. So, if you’re planning to organize one activity, you can make use of this feature to do so judging from the best feedback written in your surveys.

How can this work with Microsoft Excel? First, you can plan out the questions and type of answers you want as well as to set the response type and determine whether the questions are answered to answer or not. Once you’re done, you can share the survey through the link which is a freaking joke to the future of the technology. Having to announce your plans by mail or links like that may be a no-no as you may end up annoying your friends like that. Once the response is complete from your friends you’ve invited to the survey, you can see the results in Excel and do neat things like embed the results in the webpage or make and share the chart of the results which may be useful for holiday party, vacation or perhaps some kind of research.

Reimagined Windows.com

The day before Windows 8’s release, they might have reimagined the entire website of Windows to coincide with the release of Windows 8 and RT.

From the new design they had planned, it featured the simple look and feel that expressed the new Windows brand as well as the one-stop shop if you’re looking to buy a new device. There are also how-to-videos that will get you started fast but due to how too simple the interface it looks like some parts may be confusing or perhaps the text is gonna be way too small to tap on the table in which the same kind of problem may be the same for some parts of the smartphone apps, it may seem that every how-to-video for every product can’t be the easiest. You can also preview the themes before you download which may be good enough but weeks after the operating system’s release, I don’t know if the no-frills support will help you solve the problems easily. This is probably because the Surface users had some kind of audio issues and the developers were trying to get the problem solved after their awareness.

Sure, the new design is touch-friendly and easy to navigate but do you probably want to tap on the box which is not quite thick and large enough? What about the rows of links? Do you also want to tap on the links which have like thinner spacing vertically?

At the Download & Shop section, you can find a wide selection of Windows 8 and RT devices for you to take a look at the system specifications and decide which one to buy. However, what’s absurd is that you’re asked a bunch of factorized questions to decide which kinds of devices you want to buy.

Another painful stuff is the desktop theme. In the RTM version of Windows 8, the entire interface is completely simplified like there’s no transparency and glass whatsoever but the glassy stuff is still there for the icons and the third-party applications so it’s not perfectly fast and battery saving for Windows RT tablets compared to their OS rival tablets. Wallpapers and sound-sets are fine but I bet that you’re better off with Windows 7 and below for ultimate theme setup because right now, there’s no patch for Windows 8 that will allow you to have the customized desktop interface like you can do with the previous Windows OSes. There’s also the improved multi-monitor support for Windows 8 but the modern UI navigation can be annoyingly inaccurate in navigating.

Lastly, the event was launched in October 25th in the respective countries starting from Singapore, Tokyo, London and so on, all the way to New York where the big day was there.

Opera 12.10

Released yesterday for Mac, Windows and Linux, there are many goodies in this release such as OS integration, improved standards support, compatibility tweaks and more.

For the Mac OSX version, the Mountain Lion version has the support for Notification Center and built-in sharing of pages to social networking sites as well as the Retina Display. For Windows users, there’s the inertia scrolling and pinch-to-zoom on Windows 7 and 8. But that’s it for Windows version? There should be Retina Display support for this browser on Windows 8 as well as the similar features Mountain Lion version has for Windows 8. For Windows 7 version, I don’t know what to say but you know that Chrome derivative browser like Rockmelt allows you to use the built-in sharing features which may be similar to what this version of Opera web browser has.

Web browsers nowadays are about fast speed and new technology embedded so there is the new SPDY protocol which makes web pages load faster on SPDY enabled sites such as Gmail, social networking sites and Wordpress. Perhaps you can go to various social networking sites for faster experience if you want like everyday on Opera web browser but in my Wordpress blog, I may optionally put in some link to encourage users to download this version of Opera web browser for faster speed.

There’s the support for high-DPI screens in the extensions framework of Opera developers: with two simple adjustments, you can make sure your extension icons look great on Retina Display screens similar to using Safari web browser on Retina Display as well and especially IE10 on Windows 8 with Retina Display support. But what about Chrome and Firefox? Do they have Retina Display support as well?

Messenger Contacts on Skype

Messenger and Skype are coming together and things are getting easier. It was previously a pain in the ass that you can’t even view the email accounts of your Skype friends but I don’t know if importing Messenger or Facebook contacts can make things easier.

The effort was previously started with the release of Skype 6.0 which allows you to sign into Skype with the Microsoft Account. With that, you can communicate with the Messenger friends with Skype.

Next year, Windows Live Messenger will be retired in favor of the clean looking Skype like it was a shame on Microsoft for not making the latest version of Windows Live Messenger quite fluid enough.

Once you update to version 6.0 of Skype, you’ll be able to expect broader device support for all platforms, sharing screens, video call on mobile phones and with Facebook friends and group video calling. However, some of the features require that you get the premium account. Once you have Skype version 6.0, you will be merging your Messenger and Skype accounts into the Microsoft account and to start communicating straight away.

Longer battery life and easier website permissions for Google Chrome

On Google Chrome 23, there’s the Do Not Track setting for users that disallows any tracking of your accounts to be made. Other parts of the original news include the GPU-accelerated video decoding for Windows version of the web browser. Dedicated graphics chips draw far less power than a CPU so using GPU-accelerated video decoding while watching videos online can increase the battery life. The YouTube video is one of the famous examples you can view on Google Chrome with this new video decoding from Google.

In their tests, the battery lasted 25% longer when this new feature is enabled so that you won’t get cut off while watching YouTube videos. Wow, bravos to Google unless you’re using Chrome 22 and below.

Now, back to Do Not Track setting, the effectiveness of such requests is dependent on how websites and services respond, so Google is working with others on a common way to respond to these requests in the future.

Lastly, with automatic updates for the browser, you will get these complete enhancements when Google Chrome 23 Final version is released. Any stage below Final will cause inaccuracies and therefore, your battery may not last anything longer.

Windows 8 Apps for Business

Some weeks after the general availability of Windows 8 and the celebration of the launch of the OS in New York, there were some stories the developers might want to share from business that are leveraging the platform to develop apps to innovate their business and improve the experience for customers and employees. It may seem that upgrading PCs to Windows 8 may be the must but the businesses can also use the backported technologies from Windows 8 as well on Windows 7 computers. This may be where they may start developing their apps for Windows 8 but then the development can’t continue even further without the Windows 8 devices for product testing. The apps may have the respective target audiences including the ones for businesses so be sure to check out the Windows Store to see which business apps are suitable. There won’t be explanations about the apps here as I may be interested in more technical stuffs.

Sine Mora for PC

The Playstation 3 version might be out yesterday but it seems that they’re planning to port Sine Mora over to PC in November 9th. This time, the PC version will be having the different publisher so the developer is Digital Reality and that can be enough to avoid attracting some retards out there as if they might be saying on what Grasshopper Manufacture was doing like then this year.

Still, where are the DLC and the auto-firing patch for this game for all platforms?

Windows Server 8 Essentials available three days ago

Finally, the small business and home users are able to purchase this OS after the release. It was several days after Windows 8’s release but it may seem that to some other companies, the whole operating system was already a disaster for desktop users. Your best bet will be to get rid of the freaking Metro tiles and stick back to the desktop usage just like using Windows 7 but that bet is for laptop and desktop users.

  • Built-in Disaster Recovery: Because Windows Home Server and SBS Server look kind of identical to each other, Windows Server 8 Essentials is a combination of two. This tool is useful for both business and homes where even home users can protect their home stuffs and work stuffs from disasters like fire, theft or flood. Using the cloud technology from Microsoft, its backup service helps keep data safe and secure even if one hardware should fail. In non-technical terms, you can prepare a series of paper-written documents just for disaster recovery preparation as if you’re preparing the data survival kits. For business, the redundancy is huge but for home users, will you make backups to, like other families or something?
  • Consistent productivity: The connection should be easier around the network at home or at work in a small business company but by using the third-party start menu tool, you can save your ass even more like trying to use the powerful and centralized data storage and sharing features in the traditional desktop way.
  • Cloud Solutions: Office 365 is one of the examples for home and business use for cloud technology but there are other solutions for your needs, with seamless integration and centralized administration.

In addition to the news about this release, there are other news about Windows Azure powering one of the games from Microsoft Games Studios as well as the reimagation of the other Windows and the expansion of Windows Server 8 to China.
