Skullgirls 2nd Encore Steam version - Controversial addition of S****Fox

Skullgirls is one great fighting game including its 2nd Encore edition upgrade and many versions of it were released in the past years but the recent addition of S****Fox as the background character in Skullgirls has angered the fans of the game and the genre, resulting in review-bombing the Steam version as well as the forum thread that would include the lawsuit or some sort. For that person, they're more or less an E-Sports player with an unusual persona route like he represents himself as a blue-and-white anthropomorphic fox. They're part of the fandom that has things about the animal characters with human personalities and characteristics. Such kinds of fictional characters already existed in the past as well as human-like characters based on the fictional monsters like those from the Pokemon franchise for instance. As an E-sports player involved in EVO events, they even overpowered other players in some tournaments. I guess that their character is one reason people frown upon or something and their addition in Skullgirls as the background character had caused some anger.
About the lawsuit someone came up with as stated in the forum thread, they even wanted Sega to be involved in suing Lab Zero Games over that character added in the game. I don't know if that is a reference to the S***c franchise which I don't give a native and faithful shit about but at least, S****Fox is a better character than that retarded and eccentric S***Chu comic franchise whose comic books and merchandises were like sold illegally without any official approval from both Sega and Nintendo. In fact, you can even come up with your own nickname/artist name that has the word S***c in it except that it has NOTHING TO DO with that S***c franchise. I've already seen some artists/DJs having that word in their professional alias. I even played some games that have that word in their game name.

Account update

Last year, I even came up with the prototype DJ logo to represent myself professionally and of course, I can't use my current nickname as the DJ alias even though it is a reference to the name of the spaceship from Taito's Darius series so I came up with the alias based on my real name instead just like how DJs did. However, the profile header is still incomplete until I can use the proper photo of myself at the DJ event venue. I had one like that on my Facebook account but I'm still looking for a different photo even today. Furthermore, I even removed gameplay videos of S***c games I played from my YouTube channel due to the revised COPPA YouTube policies which was COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY in the first place as those games are family-friendly to begin with. I shouldn't have taken such actions out of panic to my YouTube channel like that. One thing to take note is that not all games I made videos of on my channel are family-friendly. Certain games may seem inappropriate for children.

Conclusion

So, in this case, you can go in the modders' favor in which you can remove S****Fox from Skullgirls if you don't like that addition so you can play the game just like it was before the controversial additions occurred. You're in the right to be angry over this addition but a removal mod seems to be a better way than review-bombing the game itself.

Arcade Love on Steam

For whatever reason, the Steam version of Arcade Love Plus Pengo doesn't have Pengo in the compilation and that makes the game less fun or something. I figure that it's due to licensing issues or something from Sega that Pengo has to be excluded in this compilation. The Xbox 360 version has Pengo although it lacks online Multiplayer support for a complete 8-Player experience in Pengo. There may be online leaderboards in other games Triangle Service had made as well as achievements which are synchronized online since your Steam/Xbox account is hybird-ish or some sort. The bigger problem with the arcade version of Arcade Love Plus Pengo is the lack of Aime support. You just start the game and realize that there isn't any prompt for starting the game with Aime card. The other ALL.NET Plus Multi games have that perhaps for saving player data or some kind but the cabinet-to-cabinet local linkage is one essential for 4-Player Pengo experience.
At the time the compilation game was developed, there was news saying that Sega was planning on remaking Pengo with HD widescreen for the arcades but then, that wouldn't be enough was the game would be too short and mini anyway so additional stuffs would be needed. Then came the familiar sound effects when completing the bonus stage in Single Player mode. It seemed that the game was being developed by Triangle Service as if Pengo is the only popular reason to play this compilation game once it came out in the arcades. Unfortunately, the game isn't that great when compared to other ALL.NET Plus Multi games in the arcades. The beat-em-up segment of Action Skills Test is kind of a mixed bag and so is the graphics throughout the entire compilation game although there are some graphical improvements in Shmups Skills Test. CombatZeal is one major disappointment to anyone's who played Trizeal and Exzeal and expected CombatZeal to be a new sequel and the compilation game is quite fun in Multiplayer as if the game's developed with that fun in mind.
The game is alright in the arcades but it's a little bit worse on consumer systems like it's lacking the online Multiplayer support and the Steam version has made things worse with the absence of Pengo that it's NOT even WORTH playing whatsoever! You're better off playing Arcade Love Plus Pengo in the arcades if that's the case.

Phantom Breaker Battle Grounds Overdrive on Switch

I forgot to blog about the Switch release of Phantom Breaker Battle Grounds Overdrive which sort of came out like this year or something. It is likely to be based on the Playstation 4 port with additional contents, additional shaders, additional enemies on screen as well as different soundtrack. It's a shame that there were rarely gameplay videos of the entire game on the Playstation 4 at the time after the game's release although there were already tons of them of the other versions. I don't know the difference between the Switch and the Playstation 4 versions although I already made guesses that the Switch version is identical to the Playstation 4 version.
Perhaps, people were already interested with next-gen looking Playstation 4 games as if they fulfilled the standards of the next-gen console. This on the other hand, had graphical enhancements when ported to Playstation 4. Sure, it looks like an indie-style game that whatever enhancement is unnecessary but this is made by the actual company. The other games whose graphics are like one generation behind the Playstation 4 are probably Darius Burst Chronicle Saviours, Super Stardust Ultra as well as the other games originally released on Type X2 and Ringedge 2 for the arcades. Obviously, it is quite unnecessary for the developers to redo the graphics from scratch for the sake of fulfilling the standards of the next-gen console as those games started off in the arcades originally.
The bigger reason of playing Phantom Breaker and its spinoff is the guest characters like the ones from Steins Gate and Chaos Head series and the 5PB visual novel games are still on-going as we speak.

Ikaruga on Switch

Zero Gunner 2 on Switch has widescreen support, altered explosion and smoke effects as the game was like remade from scratch by Zerodiv but the way they ported it to Switch caused more minor flaws. Ikaruga falls on the same era as Zero Gunner 2 as they started on Sega Naomi in the arcades before getting console releases on Dreamcast. Ikaruga was also released on other gaming platforms and the Xbox 360 version via XBLA enhances the graphics with Nesica X Live version enhancing the game even more. The Steam version is like definitive if you ask me as it is based on Nesica X Live arcade version which is based on XBLA version. The Switch version is commonly comparable to the Steam version. Like other versions of the game, you get vertical screen orientation support as well as various modes.
I hope the conversion for the Switch version is a decent one when it comes out at the end of this month as from what I saw of gameplay videos of Zero Gunner 2 Switch version, I was disappointed from the way that game was ported with strange way of objects falling for instance.

Prismatic Solid for Playstation 4

Originally an Xbox Live Indie game developed using XNA by some former Squaresoft programmer, Prismatic Solid pushes the limits of the Xbox 360 console without any lag by having tons of particles, bullets and shards at the same time. If you thought that bullet hell shmups today take up tons of resources with bullets only, this one has more than that without any slowdown whatsoever. Resogun surely has tons of particles and voxels as well as superior graphics to this but as least, it is a test of technical capability of XNA and Xbox 360 themselves. There's the glow effect below the ship similar to the one in R-Type Dimensions and like the R-Type series, the options protect you from enemy bullets. Each shot has its own formation and each option has its own smartbomb that decreases the power everytime you activate it. There are power orbs in three different colors that increase the power and the tentacle arms of the corresponding options.
On the Playstation 4 version, there's really not much to say other than the smooth gameplay in 1080p at 60fps with no graphical differences whatsoever. I might have seen some changes in programming that make the game more challenging in this version or maybe my witnessing is somewhat wrong as the game itself is so underrated not because it's an indie game or something. The only special thing about the Playstation 4 version is that even the Playstation 4 is put to the technical test on how well the system can handle the game the same way the Xbox 360 does.

Phantom Breaker Battlegrounds Overdrive

The Playstation 4 version that was released this year has the additional skills, 16-bit BGM as well as higher amount of enemies to deal with. There are also special magic spells that cause lots of money or other items, summon various attacks or do the recovery. It surely makes things overall intense with lots of enemies on the battlefield but it can mean the increase of difficulty overall like you're going to have a hard time in higher difficulty even at the highest power. In addition, there are other changes in this version as well such as different announcer, the way the enemy disappears or takes damage and the real fog effects. These changes may be strange to be frank and they still don't increase the Playstation 4 usage level much further and especially for the insane amount of enemies and items on screen which are the only major resource usages of the system. Also, the retroness level is getting that less due to the fog, lighting effects and other effects the retro game systems are not able to handle. Even certain sound effects are not retro at all.
Having to level up and unlock skills is a tedious task and that concept to me should not be in the game. Also, another strange thing is that other characters are completely powerless that they are seriously weak in the first place and the worse thing about Arcade Mode is that there's no way you can strengthen the characters after every stage. Lastly, the Playstation 4 version worsens things a little bit with the decrease of retroness level by adding real fog and lighting effects which are way beyond many retro game systems can do.
These enhancements mentioned above can also be in other versions of the game as well but I don't think that will happen at anytime.

Xbox games on your browser?

What the hell? This is unspeakably complicated and breaks the purpose of playing console games on the game consoles compared to Steam which is the PC gaming service! Why put in the cloud gaming thingy with the power of Xbox Live service that can be played in the browser? Can you imagine how the browser is accessed in multiple types of devices? Sure, Remote Desktop technology for gaming can be equivalent to Sony's Remote Play for the PSP, PS Vita when connected to PS3 or PS4 but this is not direct remote gaming for Xbox consoles. Xbox Smartglass may or may not use the internet connection to control the Xbox 360 or Xbox One console but I guess that basic local networking should be enough for remote controls. Other than that, it's kind of pointless compared to Remote Play which is a popular move nowdays like you can use your PSP or PS Vita as the second controller or secondary display. It may be before the Wii U existed with similar ideas but the similar ealier idea laid with the DS and 3DS where you can make use of the bottom screen to do easy commands with the touch controls to interact with what goes on the top screen whereelse on the Wii U, you use the Gamepad to do the same thing and the same goes for the Remote Play feature for PS Vita when connected to the PS3 or PS4.
And imagine this for the Xbox side. Having to use mouse and keyboard for Xbox remote gaming purposes is kind of fucking stupid and especially when using the virtual controller on the device running Xbox Smartglass. How complicated this can be? Playing console games on the browser as cloud gaming may spell trouble for the Xbox series consoles themselves! At least, they should use cloud gaming technology for Xbox One by having Xbox 360 games playable on that thing only! That is something Microsoft should do where-else Sony's already planning the Playstation Now service that will allow you to play Playstation 3 games on the Sony Smart TVs, PS4, etc. provided that you have the game controller suited but PS3 games on the Vita and Vita TV? Why can't you use the Remote Play instead to make things easier? Downside is the overall price, of course for the Sony side but for the Xbox side, it may be something Microsoft lacks and especially when there are no portable game consoles produced by them.
But be lucky that this is one of these research experiments conducted by Microsoft and there are other researches done by them to see if one of these can be used. This one's not perfect and the problem that has been keeping people concerned of is the lag when it comes to cloud gaming. The worse thing is that OnLive doesn't have enough interesting games available but turning the Xbox One or the entire Xbox Live service into the next OnLive is a no-no. The only appealing with the use of the cloud gaming is that certain Xbox One games make use of it and that the same technology can be used to contain Xbox 360 games to be played on that console.

Bullet Soul Infinite Burst obtained!

Bullet Soul Infinite Burst as we know of, is the Black Label equivalent to the original released three years ago. It has all the DLCs included as well as the new mode, new intro, new intro and ending songs as well as the arranged soundtrack. The original soundtrack is still the best by the way in comparison to the arranged soundtrack.
For Burst mode, it is equivalent to the Hyper mode. To gain the Burst gauge, you simply need to destroy the enemies. Simply shooting them before destroying them completely doesn't increase the Burst gauge. Once the gauge is full, you should be able activate the Hyper/Burst mode where you get more powerful firepower along with red medals. The medal system behaves like the one in Dangun Feveron/Fever SOS but the chain reaction is different and fair enough compared to that where scoring is based entirely on medal collection. The only way to activate the bomb is during the Burst mode. But getting hit ends the Burst mode abruptly and costs a life. You cannot activate the bomb in normal mode either.
Other game modes include the Normal mode and Caravan mode from the original Bullet Soul but there are some programming modifications in Infinite Burst edition such as the boss warning screen that flashes before the boss battle although it looks like ass and lazily done.

Pac-Man Museum Obtained!

OK, this may be another recent purchase from Xbox Live Marketplace. Certain of which in this compilation are already damn hard. Pac-Man Arrangement on the other hand is freaking pixellated. Pac-Man Battle Royale is much funner in the arcades and mobile devices than on the home console. Pac-Attack doesn't seem to be using emulation whatsoever so the screen fading is damn smooth.

Pacman Museum for XBLA, PSN and PC

A few years ago, there was Pacman Battle Royale on the arcades which was the 4-player vs game where you have to munch your opponent's Pacman after munching the large dot that makes yours bigger. The graphics are based on Pacman Champion Edition but the downside is that the arcade hardware is PS2 based although the game itself is widescreen. What were they thinking technically when it came to a recent simple arcade game like that a few years ago? When that game is being part of this game compilation, it is going to look like a joke graphically and especially when it runs at lower resolution unlike Pacman Champion Edition and its DX counterpart. Personally, DX edition is more fun to play but I still have yet to buy the full version of it though.
Other games include Pac Attack Megadrive version Pacman PSP Arrangement and other classic games out there. Damn, that PSP arrangement as if its soundtrack is kind of repetitive compared to Galaga PSP arrangement whose soundtrack is surprisingly good. And of course, why do I have to play that again when I already have Namco Museum Battle Collection on PSP? The graphics are already at the PSP level and they will not look that good to the HD consoles.
Well, that is like two news merged into one. One for Pacman Museum recently released last month and the other regarded Pacman Battle Royale.

Kinect used for spying in Europe?

You know, the gamers in Europe are going to be more pissed than any other  gamers outside Europe when seeing this terrible news. It doesn't matter where it comes from but for me, I have been looking for new news from Neowin website where I can blog things from. OK, even Microsoft is not happy about this so be glad about their awareness of this happening. Nobody knows about this at first until we see such a news like this today.
From last December, Microsoft had already pledged to encrypt their services against those on-going spying agencies but the plan will take until the end of this year to complete.
The worse thing is that every Xbox One console will come with the Kinect which may be a bad move for me as not all games make use of it. Sure, the new Kinect will not be used for the same bullshit as I can think of but it may seem that things are going to backfire for European gamers in the future. I assume that it doesn't matter which Xbox console you own and especially for whichever Windows version of the Kinect you own as well. If that evil bullshit is going to happen to all the Kinect devices, then WHAT IS THE POINT of buying Kinect for Windows for whatever projects you want? Is there Playstation Camera for Windows? And even then, there isn't ANY tool on PC right now that doesn't support that Playstation's equivalent to Kinect. You expect someone to make a bunch of Playstation Camera Windows drivers for those programs? No! This kind of cyber-spying is COMPLETE BULLSHIT! Is Microsoft already planning to encrypt Xbox Live as well? The fucking hell do I know until we see more of the good news from the company.
If this bullshit keeps going on, then we may be afraid that the sales for Xbox One may backfire for real in the future. At least, when all the bullshit regarding the Xbox One was gone before its launch, the sales of that console would look successful as if the console eventually succeeded just like its predecessor. But now, it may seem that the real fault lies with the spying agencies in UK that Microsoft will have to take some extra cautions when encrypting their services in the future.

Game Center Love Plus Pengo for Xbox 360

The graphical quality is not gonna be that great as the graphics still look like they're based on the NAOMI graphics engine with some required enhancements. Sure, there may be overhauls but not too much and some of the stages from Shmups Skills Test are replaced in Game Center Love Plus Pengo with the new ones. Okay, so the background graphics and objects are updated but it's not the same for the sprites. It may appear that Triangle Service itself is still a small company but it could have been better if they collaborated with other companies to help out like G.Rev already did with Treasure back then.
So, it may seem that the game itself doesn't use the full power of the Ringedge 2 arcade hardware that it can be somewhat ported back to Xbox 360 as the results. The gameplay may still feel old-school and the Action Game Skills Test mode isn't that great either. The first disadvantage of the game is that in Action Game Skills Test mode thing, some of the stages involve moving the joystick in left-right or up-down directions which can be damaging to it in the first place. Secondly, in Combatzeal, there may be some overlapping of the playfield but that is more of a minor issue. Third disadvantage is that the graphics don't seem to be going next-generation at all. Forth disadvantage, Combatzeal is nothing but another mini-game in the compilation.
Overall, the game itself may be okay but I don't know if the Xbox 360 port is going to improve or not. The Xbox 360 version will be out sometime in March and you may be better off playing this on the console than in the arcades. There may be better current-gen shmup games out there in the arcade on Sega Ringedge 2 and Taito Type X2. The most fun games in the compilation will probably be Pengo HD and Shmups Skills Test. If you already have the previous Triangle Service games on the Xbox 360, this compilation should be quite affordable as well.

Countdown to next year continues for Xbox 360 games

Phew, the Christmas celebration was over two days ago but unfortunately, I have a serious sickness since the beginning of this week so I wasn't able to do anything to celebrate. It was a shame for that to happen to me although many companies had planned something really big for that day.
Next stop will be the New Year's Eve and this on-going event will eventually last till December 31st with the different list of games so far for the Xbox 360. The second half of the event includes the Games on Demand and Xbox Live Arcade games but no DLC similar to the first half.

Countdown to next year with Xbox 360 game sale

As if the countdown to next year and this year's christmas are like the best or something, Microsoft has decided to put in the various games for Xbox 360 as part of this upcoming countdown with the countdown discounts. Certain Games On Demand games, XBLA and DLCs will be discounted until December 23rd. The event is said to last until December 31st.

First Xbox One Indie games to launch in March next year

Well, you can probably use Project Spark or the C++ to make indie games for Xbox 360, Xbox One and Windows 8. But then, it may seem that Project Spark is something like Kodu Game Lab which may be way too simple when it comes to creating games with that. I don't know what to say about Kodu Game Lab when I discovered and tried it the last time. There may be similar games such as Minecraft or Little Big Planet in which Project Spark is going to be something like that where you can make custom levels with supported kinds of gameplays you want.
The previous announcement from Microsoft is the ID@Xbox program that will support self-publishing of the indie games. Previously, there wasn't Kinect support at all and the Xbox 360 Indie developers didn't have access to Xbox Live. I don't know the release date for this program but I can assume that it was already released.

Original shows coming to Xbox 360 and One next year

What the hell? What happened to Windows Media Center for Xbox 360 already? It’s already unstable in terms of performance when connected to the computer on the network but with Metro apps such as the Pictures, Videos and Music apps on Xbox 360, you should be able to view the contents without any problem.

Apparently, the original shows will be arriving to both Xbox 360 and One next year but I don’t know what the app for those will be like for Xbox 360. The easy thing is that you will need the Xbox Live if you want to watch those TV shows but then, I don’t know what the list of channels will be like on my Xbox 360 console on MY NATION. Sure, there will be foreign channels but I don’t know how you will pay monthly for that if this is Xbox Live service.

PrimeSense–Bought by Apple

This week, the Xbox One will be launched along with its new controversial Kinect device that consumers are forced to buy when buying that console. At least, the first Kinect device was good enough for technology users and it was developed by PrimeSense which has just been brought up by Apple. Perhaps there must be a Kinect-like device that supports the IOS devices and some IOS games already happen to be using that device invented by PrimeSense. I may have known one of those Sega IOS rhythm games that does that but I still have to know more info about that game. It may be something like Dance Central, Dance Evolution or Just Dance, I don’t know.

Additional information from the news can be found at Engadget and Slashgear websites respectively. After PrimeSense was bought by Apple, it seemed that that Microsoft was on its own inventing their own Kinect for Xbox One and there will be the Windows version that will be coming in next year which is sort of like adding additional fire to the fuel against the freedom months after Xbox One is released.

Makato Asada at MAGES.–Working on untitled Xbox One game

Is the betrayal or rebelling near when it comes to Makato Asada working on Xbox One game that will be released in the future? Other information includes MAGES working on the Xbox Live Arcade version of some PC game that will be released next year. So, we don’t even know what kind of game is he working on for Xbox One at MAGES but the thing is, we still want the Playstation 4 to have the greater shmup support as the console itself gives you MORE FREEDOM.

This year, he might have left Cave Interactive into working at MAGES as if the Cave-like resources are still with 5PB Games. They might have recently released Ketsui for Playstation 3 based on the Xbox 360 port with the new company alias for that version. So if Ketsui for Playstation 3 has made it to PSN, there may be more chance for people to buy in case the retail copies are sold out and especially when it can be played on the Playstation 4 as well.

Ginga Force obtained!

Damn, what a difficult game I had after buying it yesterday! Perhaps the weapons you have from the beginning are not quite useful/powerful enough for survival.
The improvements in the gameplay are that you can fire both the main weapon and sub weapon at the same time although the downside is that you can't use them and the special weapon at the same time. However, if you have the option shot, you can use both the sub weapon and the special weapon at the same time which can be handy enough for Chapter 4 although you need to be careful in some parts of the chapter where the enemy missiles will be fired while the giant enemy battleship moves left and right with the middle weapon firing lots of bullets downwards. That part is where you may need both the option shot and the special weapon at the same time. But if you do have the Slow weapon, you can use all three weapons at the same time but the downside is that you need to be extra careful in dodging stuffs while slowing down the time.
Other flaws involve the inaccurate graphical improvements compared to Eschatos. While the background graphics are looking even better as required for 4:3 vertical shooter in HD form, it cannot be the same for the palette of the textures, the amount of polygons applied as well as the recycled effects from the previous game. The explosions could have been even larger than the enemy size itself and the developers should have used the newer explosion sprites instead of the ones from the previous game to look even better. Another problem is the lack of boss destruction. It is fine in first several chapters where the criminals in this game should be caught but we may expect to see such epic looking boss destruction scene for Chapters 9 and 10. Lastly, the opening. Why is that made out of in-game stuffs? Can't the developers collaborate with some 2D animation studio to do the advanced work on the opening like Treasure, Konami and Warashi did? If someone at Nico Nico Douga is to do his own version, I may expect the whole opening to be in complete anime form although it may be difficult to do so.

Bullet Soul Infinite Burst for Xbox 360 Announced

Finally, another shmup that will be released next year from 5PB! A few days ago, there was already the full version of Double Dealing Character and some spell cards from the last boss battle were like the shout-outs to playing Combatzeal or perhaps purposely changing screen orientation yourself in the middle of the game which may be something nobody does. In Combatzeal multi-player battle, activating the Rotate powerup from the Gradius-like powerup bar will of course rotate the other players' playing fields but the rotation can be reset by getting hit or activating Reset powerup. I don't know if the rotation is temporary or perhaps permanent. For those spell cards I'm talking about, they simply flip the screen vertically or horizontally which may be some tricks no other shmups have.
Speaking of what happened a few days ago, there was an announcement of Bullet Soul Infinite Burst and the PS Vita version of Phantom Breaker Battle Grounds at the Phantom Breaker related event. Graphically, there can also be the 3DS release of Phantom Breaker Battle Grounds due to how retro the graphical style is in addition to the Vita release but for Bullet Soul Infinite Burst, I don't know what the new elements are because in the original Bullet Soul, it's basically Star Soldier meeting Ketsui or something.
As this was the initial announcement from 5PB, we may have to wait until there are actual details on what the game looks like.
