Obviously, Windows 10 and Ubuntu with Unity have the privacy-violating features with certain of them being able to be turned off but this Linux-based eXtern OS which is the like the one-person-hobby OS can turn you off the most. This OS has been in development for years and my assumption is that it has been developed by one person by the name of Anesu Chiodze. The positive impression when visiting the official website is that the author is the university student with the degree of Computer Science & Engineering. He's passionate of technology and software that I can respect that.
Unfortunately, the setup wizard doesn't seem to have workarounds in some pages and is missing international news support. Some of the stuffs from Microsoft like Cortana for instance are so much western to me. While Cortana has international support, its support list is incomplete and especially for various English accents. Another unfortunate thing is that there's no way you can install this OS onto the computer's hard disk and there's no way you can deep customize with package uninstallation/installation like you can in other Linux OSes. This kind of prototype stage SHOULD BE WELL SUITED IN A TEST ENVIRONMENT/BEDROOM! AND WHAT'S THE POINT OF TESTING THIS OS IF THERE'S NO WAY TO TURN OFF THE DATA-COLLECTING FEATURES!
*Sigh* If this OS gets finalized and STILL VIOLATES the privacy no way to turn that crap off, there will be more lawsuits delivered to the authors of it way quicker than the ones delivered to Microsoft. Right now, the OS is still in prototype stage and the project can be supported through Patreon. To open doors of support through Patreon for your project that does bad shit like privacy violation is giving people the opportunity to file lawsuits against you. Patreon cannot be held responsible when things happen.
At least in Windows 10 and Ubuntu with Unity during their beta stages, you could actually turn off things that were collecting your data and storing them to the servers but for eXtern OS, THIS IS MUCH WORSE and that's not how you show the prototype product to the net. You think people are going to get eXtern OS by the time it's finalized after knowing this controversy?
Oh, there's Beta 2 coming in sometime this year and I don't know if there will be opportunity to turn off the data collection features as well as install the OS. Also, the AI for the OS is kind of like Cortana or something but the way it is named in short form is like "Ouch" in some foreign language. I can imagine that the sole author must have watched too much cartoons to come up with such a name of the OS' AI. This is like the virtual assistant going all mean but nice on you in which you are taken for a fool both verbally and physically as well as being caring for you on its inside. Imagine Cortana or Siri doing this to you after asking her something, she'll be like, "Here's the current weather report, moron", or maybe like, "I've determined the direction and time taken for you so get out and do something good there, fool!" Okay, that just sounds like something in a western drama but I don't know if there's a drama or movie where a character is like that. Sure, he/she may go superior on you at first, but if your competence and attitude are decent enough, you deserve some trust. Can some superiors give the OS authors a chance if that's the case? Or maybe, the OS is like making you feel masochistic or some kind like you allow its AI/digital assistant to tell you off even more verbally.
You know what you can do with the eXtern OS install? It's with the use of Ubuntu Customization Kit or similar for deployment of a custom installation of Ubuntu-based OS.
You can be a business insider for Windows 10 but until the authors have done right thing next time with the next beta of eXtern OS, you are refrained from beta-testing it in the enterprise test-environment and the only place you can beta-test it is your home.
